With the passage of time, the original production method of many old equipment in the factory has obviously fallen behind. Some manufacturers have begun to think of ways to revitalize old equipment by doing it themselves. In February 2022, the 259 lathe, which has been in service for more than half a century in Dongqing Smelting and Casting Plant, successfully completed the intelligent robot transformation. As early as 2015, “Metal Processing” also published the application examples of CNC machine tools with loading and unloading robots.
The 259 lathe of Dongqing Rong Casting Plant was put into production in the 1960s, and it is responsible for the work of ingot wagons with a diameter of 162~305mm and a length of 400~800mm. Participated in a number of “China first” production work. It adopts traditional mechanical processing, the operation steps are cumbersome, there are certain safety hazards, and the product quality is easily disturbed by external forces. In order to meet the needs of modern production, Dongqing Rong Foundry decided to transform the 259 lathe.
On the one hand, it is the automatic transformation of the machine body, redesigning the mechanical transmission part and the manual adjustment part, realizing the closed-loop control of preparation, measurement, assistance, and processing, and writing the operation program, so that the operation of the machine tool and the robot forms a closed-loop connection and the whole machine is integrated.
On the other hand, by adding intelligent robots to replace part of the manual work, the automatic production of this process is realized. The robot’s intelligent positioning and reclaiming, precise feeding and automatic palletizing functions improve efficiency and reduce safety risks.
